A high pressure system will drift eastwards across Victoria today. The next cold front will approach western coastal waters later on Wednesday before weakening and slipping southwards Thursday morning. A stronger cold front will approach western coastal waters later Thursday and will sweep across Bass Strait Friday morning.

Winds: South to southwesterly 5 to 10 knots tending east to southeasterly by early evening. Seas: Below 0.5 metres.

Forecast for Wednesday
Winds: East to northeasterly about 10 knots tending north to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots around dawn then tending northerly 20 to 25 knots around midday. Northerly winds strengthening to 20 to 30 knots during the afternoon. Seas: 0.5 to 1 metres increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday then increasing to 2 metres during the afternoon.

Forecast for Thursday
Winds: Northerly 20 to 30 knots decreasing to 20 to 25 knots during the morning then increasing to 20 to 30 knots later in the day. Seas: 1 to 2 metres. The chance of thunderstorms from midday.

Forecast for Friday
Winds: West to northwesterly 20 to 30 knots tending westerly 20 to 25 knots during the evening. Seas: 1 to 2 metres.
